Game of Thrones: History and Geography of House Glover

House Glover of Deepwood Motte is a noble house from the north, and is among the principal houses sworn to Winterfell. Galbart Glover is the Master of Deepwood Motte, which is located in the northwestern wolfswood. Houses Bole, Branch, Forrester, and Woods of the wolfswood are sworn to the Glovers.
Their blazon is silver mailed fist on scarlet. Their words are not mentioned in the books.

History
The Glovers ruled as First Men kings after the Long Night, but they were eventually reduced to vassals by the Kings of Winter from House Stark.
Benton Glover served as First Ranger when Queen Alysanne Targaryen visited the north in 58 AC.
The Glovers aided Lord Cregan Stark in hunting down the free folk raiders of Sylas the Grim.
Jorah Mormont's first wife, chosen by his father Jeor, was a Glover of Deepwood Motte. They were married ten years, and she died after her third miscarriage. Ethan Glover, who was Brandon Stark's squire and went to King's Landing with him to challenge Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, was the only one of Brandon's companions to survive. Ethan later died at the tower of joy.

Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
After getting indications that the Lannisters were involved in the murder attempt on Bran Stark, Lord Eddard Stark tells Catelyn Stark to send word to Ser Helman Tallhart and Galbart Glover to raise a hundred bowmen and fortify Moat Cailin.
Bran recognizes the mailed fist of the Glovers, silver on scarlet, among the northern banners that answer Robb Stark's call to Winterfell. Galbart's brother, Robett, demands the honor of battle command, though with a smile and a jest. The brothers greet Catelyn when she joins Robb's army at Moat Cailin. When Robb splits his forces at the Twins, Galbart stays with him, while Robett is assigned to the army commanded by Lord Roose Bolton.
Tyrion Lannister sees the mailed fist of the Glovers on the northern army he faces in the battle on the Green Fork. Catelyn notices Galbart praying with Robb at the godswood of Riverrun after the victory at the Camps.

A Clash of Kings
The Glovers play a part of the succession of the Hornwood lands, as they are fostering Larence Snow, the bastard of Lord Halys Hornwood. When Robett and Galbart went south with Robb Stark, they left Robett's wife, Sybelle Glover, in charge of Deepwood Motte. When the castle's steward comes to
Winterfell for the harvest feast, Bran realizes it is the steward, not Lady Glover, who is making the decisions at Deepwood. Glover men play bladder and woodharp during the feast.
During Robb's campaign in the westerlands, Galbart and Lord Rickard Karstark raid along the coast of the Sunset Sea after the Battle of Oxcross. Robett is held prisoner at Harrenhal, reportedly having been made prisoner of the Brave Companions. In fact, the northmen and sellswords conspire to take the massive castle. Robett is one of the northern commanders told to strike Duskendale by Roose Bolton, reporting supposed orders from Robb, King in the North.
During the ironborn invasion of the north, Asha Greyjoy holds Sybelle and her children as hostages after the taking of Deepwood Motte. Theon Greyjoy notices that no Glovers are part of the army commanded by Ser Rodrik Cassel that gathers at Winterfell to expel the ironborn, due to the fact that their castle is occupied by his sister Asha.

A Storm of Swords
Robett Glover survives the battle at Duskendale and leads the survivors in retreat, only to meet Ser Gregor Clegane, who is waiting for them on the kingsroad. King Robb exchanges prisoners with Lord Tywin Lannister, trading young Martyn Lannister for Robett, who is put on a ship at Duskendale.
During Robb's trip to the Twins for Lord Edmure Tully's marriage to Roslin Frey, Galbart Glover takes Ser Brynden Tully's place as the commander of scouts and outriders. In preparation for his campaign against the ironborn-held Moat Cailin, Robb commands Lady Maege Mormont and Galbart to sail on Mallister longships through the marshes of the Neck to seek out Lord Howland Reed.

A Feast for Crows
Asha treats Sybelle well while she is held at Deepwood Motte. Sybelle tells Asha that Galbart would talk with her, and that the northmen would agree to exchange Deepwood Motte, Torrhen's Square, and Moat Cailin for Sea Dragon Point and the Stony Shore. Asha takes Lady Glover and her children with her to Harlaw. During the voyage, Sybelle's milk dries up and they have to feed little Erena with milk from a goat found ashore. Erena is sick when they arrive at Harlaw.
Brienne of Tarth spots the badge of House Glover among those that have been collected from the dead around Duskendale.

A Dance with Dragons
Asha and her ironborn are defeated by Stannis Baratheon in the fight by Deepwood Motte. Lady Sybelle Glover declares for Stannis and sends clansmen sworn to Deepwood Motte with the king during his march on Winterfell, which is held by Lord Roose Bolton, the new Warden of the North.
Robett tries to gather men at White Harbor without much success. He and Lord Wyman Manderly ask Lord Davos Seaworth to use his smuggler skills to retrieve Rickon Stark.

Game of Thrones: History and Geography of House Flint of Widow's Watch

House Flint of Widow's Watch is a noble house from Widow's Watch in the east of the north. They are probably the most powerful branch of House Flint. While the Flints of the mountains claim to be the oldest of the Flints, a semi-canon source states the Flints of Widow's Watch are the senior branch of the extended Flint family, which includes the mountain Flints and House Flint of Flint's Finger.
Neither their arms nor their words appear in the text. A semi-canon source blazons their banner as a blue field strewn with whitecaps, on a yellow chief with crested line a pair of blue eyes and gives their motto as "Ever Vigilant".

History
It is suggested that the Night's King was a Flint, among the many possibilities. Lord Commander Rodrik Flint is regarded as one of the worst commanders of the Night's Watch, for trying to make himself King-Beyond-the-Wall. One of the dark legends surrounding the Nightfort is the rape and murder of brave young Danny Flint.
A branch of House Flint held the Wolf's Den for a century after the extinction of the Greystarks.

Recent Events

Since House Flint of Widow's Watch is ruled by Lady Lyessa Flint, the passage probably refers to the Lord of Flint's Finger.
Robin Flint is one of the thirty sons of nobles that ride besides the Young Wolf during the war. He and Ser Wendel Manderly are among the older men in the group.

A Clash of Kings
The Flints are reported to have ties to House Hornwood through the female line, though A Clash of Kings does not specify which branch.
The Flints of Widow Watch excuse themselves for not attending the harvest feast of Winterfell because Lady Lyessa Flint is heavy with child and there is sickness at Widow's Watch. Robin accompanies Lady Catelyn Stark on her voyage south to deal with Renly Baratheon and Stannis Baratheon.
When Theon Greyjoy studies the banners from the northern lords preparing to attack Winterfell through Maester Luwin's Myrish lens tube, he sees some of House Flint, though not as many as from other houses.

A Storm of Swords
Robin commands the rearguard during Robb's march to the Twins for the wedding of Edmure Tully. Robin is one of Robb's bodyguards during the wedding feast, sitting near him with the Smalljon without drinking. During the Red Wedding, Robin is last seen ringed by Freys, their daggers rising and falling.
Maester Aemon sends a raven to Widow's Watch in a plea for help to defend Castle Black from wildlings.

Game of Thrones: History and Geography of House Flint of Flint's Finger

House Flint of Flint's Finger is a noble house from Flint's Finger in the southwest of the north. They are probably less powerful than the Flints of Widow's Watch. The semi-canon A Song of Ice and Fire Campaign Guide states Robin Flint is the lord of this house, although A Clash of Kings states he is the son of Lady Lyessa Flint of Widow's Watch.
Neither their arms nor their words appear in the text. According to a semi-canon source they blazon their banner as a grey stone hand upon a white inverted pall on paly black and grey.

A Clash of Kings
The Flints are reported to have ties to House Hornwood through the female line, though A Clash of Kings does not specify which branch.
When Theon Greyjoy studies the banners from the northern lords preparing to attack Winterfell through Maester Luwin's Myrish lens tube, he sees some of House Flint, though not as many as from other houses.
